Description

Join us for this interactive presentation and discussion about how to build a developmentally appropriate culture of exploitation awareness, prevention, and response. Youth workers can build a culture that supports safe environments for children, youth, and young adults though prevention, education, and response that is embedded in everyday practice. Co-presented by Dr. Getz, Indiana University Youth Development faculty member and a Youth Development student, this interactive session highlights the value of youth-adult partnerships and intergenerational learning in advancing exploitation prevention efforts.

Participants will engage in guided discussion, scenario-based activities, and reflective exercises designed to explore how schools, youth-serving organizations, and communities can reduce vulnerability to exploitation. Together, participants will examine risk and protective factors, identify opportunities to strengthen organizational culture, and explore practical strategies that promote safety, belonging, resilience, and healthy development.

Drawing on public health, positive youth development, and trauma-informed frameworks, the presenters will share lessons learned from educational and community-based initiatives focused on prevention, workforce development, and youth empowerment. Attendees will leave with practical tools, resources, and action steps that can be immediately applied within their own organizations and communities to strengthen prevention efforts and improve response readiness.
