What if youth engagement isn't the goal, but the result of something deeper? Drawing from years of community-based youth development, behavioral health, and direct conversations with young people, this interactive session explores what youth consistently say they need from the adults who serve them. Participants will challenge traditional ideas of engagement and discover practical strategies for building authentic relationships, fostering trust, and creating emotionally safe spaces where youth feel seen, heard, valued, and empowered. Grounded in Positive Youth Development, trauma-informed practices, and culturally responsive approaches, attendees will leave with the TALK Framework, a practical relationship-centered model they can immediately apply to strengthen connection, belonging, and meaningful youth engagement in any out-of-school time setting.
