Quality is not a one-time effort. It is something programs build, revisit, and strengthen over time. Out of school time professionals are constantly making decisions that shape young people’s experiences. The question is not whether quality matters. The question is how we support it in ways that are consistent, meaningful, and sustainable.
This session introduces IAN's updated approach to continuous quality improvement. At the center is a system built to help programs align their practices with the principles of positive youth development and high-quality programming, while creating space for ongoing reflection and growth. You will get an early look at how this system is organized and how it supports programs in connecting everyday practice to stronger outcomes for youth. As part of this conversation, we will also preview the updated out-of-school time quality standards, which serve as a key component within this broader approach to quality. Together, these elements are designed to bring greater clarity and consistency to how programs define quality, support staff, and strengthen their impact over time.
This is not about adding more to your plate. It is about creating a clearer path for the work already happening. You will leave with a strong understanding of what is coming, how these pieces fit together, and how this approach can support more intentional, effective, and high-quality learning environments for young people. When we are clear about what quality looks like and how to grow it, we create programs where young people are supported, challenged, and able to thrive.
