Dr. Breanya Hogue is an Assistant Professor of Literacy and Language Education in the department of Curriculum & Instruction within the College of Education at Purdue University. She currently teaches undergraduate early K-6 literacy methods and instruction, and graduate courses focused on literacy foundations, coaching, and advanced qualitative inquiry. Her research interests include pre-service teacher urban education, communities of practice, community and family engaged practices, diverse children’s literature, culturally responsive and proactive pedagogies, and critical literacy. She recently founded and serves as the Executive Director of the Purdue CDF Freedom School Program at First United Methodist Church, which is an intentional university-church partnership which provides engagement and training opportunities for students, families, and community members.
