Description

Out-of-school time professionals regularly help young people navigate conflict, peer pressure, bullying, and challenging social situations. This highly interactive session demonstrates how theatre-based learning can transform those everyday moments into opportunities for skill building. Participants will experience ACT Out Social-Issue Theatre’s evidence-based facilitation model through a live interactive scene portraying a realistic conflict between students. Rather than simply watching the performance, attendees will step into the role of facilitator - analyzing the situation, proposing interventions, and exploring alternative outcomes alongside professional actors. Following the demonstration, participants will discuss practical strategies for fostering respectful communication, problem-solving, and youth engagement within their own OST programs. Whether participants lead afterschool programs, summer learning, or youth development initiatives, they will leave with immediately applicable techniques for creating environments where young people can practice healthy relationships skills.
