Description

Out-of-school time (OST) programs are uniquely positioned to help youth transform personal adversity into leadership and purpose. In this dynamic workshop, Kaymi Butler, Founder & CEO of Black Lemonade, introduces the S.W.E.E.T. Framework (Safe, Welcoming Environment that Everyone Trusts), a proven model for cultivating authentic youth engagement and leadership . Attendees will explore how combining high-quality OST programming with family stabilization services (transportation, food security, and crisis care) removes structural barriers, allowing youth to thrive. Participants will learn actionable strategies to foster self-efficacy, embed peer mentorship, and empower youth to design community-driven solutions. OST staff, site directors, and leaders will walk away with a practical toolkit to elevate youth voice, strengthen program culture, and turn life's "lemons" into sweet success.
