Description
Many of today's students are passionate about their areas of interest and thus are deep wells of information, facts, and factoids. And they love showing that they know things! Putting students in a position to demonstrate their knowledge can help them develop peers, scratch their competitive itch, and feel empowered by their knowledge. The biggest benefit of knowledge competitions is that they naturally facilitate the development of social-emotional skills: resilience, frustration tolerance, teamwork, and how to be a good winner or loser. Trivia is a good venue for this skill development because trivia (unlike, per se, tests) test random knowledge and can be reframed as a test of luck as much as a test of knowledge.
