Join the launch of a new professional credential designed to strengthen literacy instruction in OST programs across the state - part of the IAN Literacy Playbook, which brings together professional learning, credentials, and funding opportunities to support high-quality literacy practices in out-of-school time.
This in-person event will cover the first three modules of the OST Literacy Credential. Through these practice-focused sessions, participants will:
- Build a clear understanding of the science of reading and its relevance to OST settings
- Learn strategies to strengthen oral language and vocabulary development
- Apply practical techniques to support comprehension during out-of-school time
These modules are required for all credential tracks and directly strengthen the quality and consistency of literacy support within your program.
Stipend & Credential Options
The OST Literacy Credential is stackable, allowing participants to build toward advanced credentials over time. Each credential builds on the previous one and includes an additional stipend upon successful completion.
- Core Literacy Credential (Youth-Facing Staff)
- 6 modules (7 hours total) | $350 stipend
- Required for all participants and a prerequisite for advanced credentials
- Literacy Lead Credential
- 9 modules total (10 hours) | $500 stipend
- Available after completing the Core Literacy Credential
- Program Director Credential
- 11 modules total (12 hours) | $600 stipend
- Available after completing the Literacy Lead Credential
Participants will complete the first three Core modules in person during this pre-conference training. Remaining modules will be completed online through the Indiana Out-of-School Academy. Stipends are awarded upon successful completion of each credential level and are cumulative as participants advance.
Whether you are a youth-facing professional, literacy lead, or program director, this experience supports your role while offering a clear, recognized pathway to deepen literacy practice across OST settings.
